General description
Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), commonly known as bleach, is primarily used in laboratories as a powerful disinfectant to sanitize surfaces and equipment, and to decontaminate biohazardous waste.

Appearance: Clear to pale yellow-green liquid.
Odor: Strong, pungent, chlorine-like odor.
Density: Approximately \(1.117 – 1.215 \text{ g/cm}^3\) (water = 1).
Solubility: 100% miscible with water.
Boiling Point: Decomposes above 110°C (230°F).
Key Uses
Sanitization: Disinfecting swimming pools, food processing equipment, and municipal water supplies.
Bleaching: Industrial bleaching of textiles and wood pulp.
