Sodium dihydrogen orthophosphate dihydrate is a chemical compound with the formula NaH2PO4.2H₂O. It’s also known as monosodium phosphate and has many uses, including:
- Buffering capacity: Used in molecular biology, biochemistry, and chromatography
- Biological buffers: Used in the preparation of biological buffers
- Baking powder: Used in some baking powders
- Laxative: Used as a laxative
- pH buffer: Used as a pH buffer
- Water treatment: Used to prevent plumbosolvency by creating a protective coating on the inside of lead pipes
- Bowel cleansing: Used for bowel cleansing before barium enema examinations and optical colonoscopy
