 INTENDED USE

ELITech Clinical Systems TRIGLYCERIDES SL is an in vitro diagnostic reagent intended for the quantitative determination of triglycerides in human serum and plasma samples.

Triglycerides measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus, nephrosis, liver obstruction, other diseases involving lipid metabolism, or various endocrine disorders.

It is not intended for use in Point of Care settings.

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Triglycerides constitute 95% of tissue storage fat and their main role is to provide energy for the cell. They are synthesized both in the intestine from dietary fats and in liver from dietary carbohydrates, and are then transported in blood by chylomicrons and VLDL. High serum triglyceride levels are associated with important risks of atheros- clerosis. They can be due to diseases like different lipid metabolism disorders (hyperlipoproteinemia, lipase activity deficiency, apolipoprotein C-II deficiency), but also to diabetes, renal or endocrine disorders.
