INTENDED USE

ELITech Clinical Systems URIC ACID MONO SL is an in vitro diagnostic reagent intended for the quantitative determination of Uric Acid in human serum, plasma and urine samples on analyzers or semi-automatic analyzers.

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Uric acid is the major product of the catabolism of endogenous and exogenous purines (adenosine and guanosine). Uric acid is poorly soluble in water. Therefore, in case of high serum concentration, urate crystals can form and deposit in joints, triggering painful inflammations (gout), or can damage kidneys. Increased serum uric acid level can be caused either by increased production (increased intake of purines increased nucleic acid turn-over particularly in case of certain cancers or following anti-cancer treatments, genetic metabolic disorders such as Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, psoriasis) or by decreased excretion (renal failure, drugs such as diuretics).
