Description
Synonym: Propyl alcohol
Linear Formula: CH3CH2CH2OH
General description
1-propanol is a primary alcohol that can be produced by oxidizing aliphatic hydrocarbons. It is extensively used as an organic solvent in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and food industries.
Application
1-Propanol can be used as a solvent in the:
- Enzyme-catalyzed Henry-reaction of aromatic aldehydes and nitroalkanes to synthesize β-nitroalcohols.
- Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of aryl halides and arylboronic acids to synthesize biphenyl compounds.
- Cross-coupling reaction of nitriles and amines to give secondary imines.
- Synthesis of ZnO thin films by sol-gel method.
- Extraction of brominated flame retardants from waste polymeric materials.
- Synthesis of polyaniline/magnetic nanoparticles composite.
