Description
General description
Ethylene glycol (EG) is a polyol having a wide range of industrial applications. Its preparation from cellulose has been reported. It can also be produced from fossil fuels (petroleum, natural gas and coal) and biomass-derived resources.
Application
Ethylene glycol can be used as a reagent in cyclocondensation reactions with aldehydes and ketones to form 1,3-dioxolanes.
It has been used:
It has been used:
- As a carrier fluid during the fabrication of shear thickening fluid (composed of nanosized silica particles).
- To compose previtrification and vitrification solutions for the cryopreservation of mouse embryos.
