Wort Agar is a general purpose mycological medium especially suitable for the cultivation and enumeration of yeasts.

General purpose mycological medium especially suitable for the cultivation and enumeration of yeasts. Addition of special indicator dyes allows differentiation between yeast and bacterial colonies (Rapp).
Wort Agar has been used to cultivate Aspergillus niger.
Preparation Note
Suspend 50 g in 1 litre of distilled water. Add 2.35 g glycerol Cat. No. 49767) and bring to the boil to dissolve completely. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes. Do not overheat! Prolonged heating will diminish the gel strength of the medium.
