General description
Direct Red 80 (C.I. 35780) is an extremely hydrophilic, very large tetrakisazo hexasulfonated anionic dye that has a large, planar aromatic system.It is also known as Sirius red F3B, chlorantine fast red 7BLN or 5BRL, durazol brilliant red B, pontamine fast red 7BNL, and sirius fast red.
Application
Direct Red 80 has been used as an ingredient in the preparation of saturated picric acid for immunohistochemical detection and quantitation of collagen in liver tissues.Other applications include –
- detection of amyloid
- Sirius red-Van Gieson methods for quantitation of collagen using image analysis methods
- counterstaining applications substituting eosin in alum hematoxylins
