General description
Yeast Extract Agar is a highly nutritive medium designed for the plate count of microorganisms. Peptic digest of animal tissue and yeast extract provides nitrogenous compounds, vitamin B complex, and other growth nutrients. Agar is a solidifying agent.
Application
Yeast Extract Agar is particularly suitable for microbiological applications such as bioburden testing, environmental monitoring, food and beverage testing, and water quality analysis. It is nonselective, allowing the growth of a wide range of bacteria, yeast, and molds.

Preparation Note
Suspend 23 g in 1000 ml distilled water. Heat to dissolve the medium completely. Sterilize by autoclaving 15 minutes at 121°C.
